Booked an injury assessment and wondering how to prepare? A few notes about what happened and what you want to get back to can help you make the most of the conversation. Here’s a simple checklist for your first visit to MEHAB in Biggleswade.

Make a short note about what’s changed

Write down when you first noticed the problem, what you were doing around that time and which activities feel different now. A couple of examples are enough: perhaps you cut a run short, changed an exercise at the gym or started taking the stairs differently. Include anything you’ve already tried and what you noticed afterwards.

Bring anything relevant you already have

If you have a referral letter, a relevant scan report or a previous rehab plan, bring a copy or have it handy on your phone. Wear something you can move comfortably in. If a particular activity matters to you, make a note of the shoes or equipment you use so you can talk about it.

Pick one thing you’d like to get back to

A goal can be as simple as walking the dog comfortably, getting through a gym session or riding with friends at the weekend. Think of one question you’d like answered before you leave. For example, “What should I focus on first?” or “How will we know whether the plan is working for me?”

What happens at MEHAB

Your first appointment starts with a conversation about what’s bothering you and what it’s stopping you doing. Your clinician assesses the problem and discusses a plan with you. What happens during the assessment depends on what you come in with and what you want to achieve.
